Religiosity and the Freaks Wearing Pink Lipstick Married To Fantasy

I think the world has lost it. Stupid world, stupid Bush, stupid Republicans, stupid Democrats, stupid insecure egos, stupid Muslims, stupid Baptists, stupid people claiming to be Mormons, stupid you, stupid me...
Get a load of my weekend: Friday, I found out I got accepted to UT RN-MSN program and start soon. I closed on my house in Houston. I'm getting a hang of my job. The blessings of tithing are paying off. Then, on the OTHER side of the spectrum: One of my brothers got busted with his wife and one year old daughter shoplifting $2300 worth of DVDs from Wal-Mart. DVDs!!! He is already on probation in the state of Texas for two previous drug-related felonies (burglary, etc.) and then he does this in violation of his probation and parole WHILE his daughter was used as 'cover'. His wife was on parole also, but w/out the extensive legal history. Well, rumor has it my brother is going to prison for 25 years. He has track marks up and down his arms and cellulitis related to sticking himself. Fuck him.
At Church, my wife said some woman related a story in relief society about how she heard a friend talking about a time when she saw the Prophet G.B.H. (Grievious Bodily Harm?) talking to a young man who was a returned missionary. This returned missionary worked in a restaurant that promoted men to grow beards and kind of long hair. Supposedly this young man went up to Pres. Hinckley and shook his hand and said, "Hey, remember me? I met you while I was on my mission," to which Pres. Hinckley replied, "Funny, you don't look like a returned missionary." Now, would a prophet say something so condescending? No. There is a vein of 'spooky mormonism' in the Church which is, I think, based in all human nature to some extent. Just in the Church it is flaming gay (not meaning to offend the delicate sensitivities of my homosexual friends-'flaming gay' is not a reference to sexual preferences). Have you heard the one about, "I saw an Apostle speak at a stake conference and he opened his talk by asking by a raise of hands how many families had there food storage gathered and when he saw the meager answer he stated that if the membership of this stake couldn't keep this particular commandment, there was no way they could 'hear' this new message..."? Or, "I had a friend of a friend who overheard the Prophet in an elevator somewhere in the mountains of Utah say, "If the membership of the Church knew what I know, then they would immediately get their food storage together..."? How stupid. Stupid mormons...Hey, don't get mad at me, you know they're there, you're just fooling yourself...I didn't teach the parable of the Ten Virgins...Stupid goosebump theologists...
Anyways, I'm ranting. I am done with the socio-/political arena for a while. FYI: Sen. Cornyn did not reply to my questions regarding Portgate, or whatever you want to call it, but he and Sen. K.B. Hutchinson has come out questioning the deal. Maybe my message got through along with the (hopefully) others...The office of Ted Poe did reply and stated Rep. Poe is 'vehemently' against the Port deal. Thanks Rep. Poe for calling me back. Vote Poe! So there. Count me out for a while...at least until tomorrow. That leads to my next thought: After all of our efforts and activism, if you can call it that, nothing is more socially effective in bringing about change than a morally righteous life and being an example of our Saviour...I have a long way to go...
The reason I'm posting tonight is this thought: A theory exists which states liberals are drug users, and drug usage is morally corrupt, you have to be a liberal to do drugs, etc. and so on...I used to partake of cannabis on a regular basis and I enjoyed it. I don't now because it is empty and it is a lie, I'd rather be with my family, and there is a better way...The point being, I never leaned towards liberalism. I have/had friends who used cannabis who are conservative. Wait, I'm getting sidetracked...
Do people adopt causes in order to placate their feelings of emptiness brought about by denying that which is True and Just, such as the foundations of this Country, the existence of God and a Saviour who loves us, etc? Do people fill the gaping hole in their lives when they are passionately "pro-choice", "pro-gay rights", "pro-animals", "pro-environment", "pro-[letariat?!?]" but anti-Christ? I think they do. I see these people adopting their various causes in order to feel a sense of moral justification for the blatant wrongs in their lives. If the "pro-gressives" admitted to a Higher Power, they would have to admit a responsibility of their actions and choices, and since admitting this would cause extreme pain, they go the opposite direction and 'champion' a cause in order to fill the hole. So to speak...stupid weak cowards...

Glad to hear you at least heard back from one - not one I've contacted acknowledged my concerns/questions on the ports deal.

Congrats on the new school adventure, too.

All the writing about why people adopt "causes" was very well said. I know I was one of those "stupid weak cowards" when younger!

Yes, Yes, and Yes. People do things for a myriad of motives because altruism is dead.

The honesty of this post struck me as I could completely feel the seething rage you must have felt when writing. No matter what crap happens in this World, family comes first. I sincerely hope and pray that your niece will come out of this relatively unscathed.
