For You A Thousand Times Over

Usually on Sundays after Church I take a nap. It is a good day to worry about nothing and just sleep. Beautiful sleep...However, 3 Mos talked of this book called the Kite Runner. It happened to be I had the book in my bedroom closet. I assumed it to be one my wife had picked up somewhere, but it turns out she doesn't know how we got it either. I started the book Saturday night before bed, and instead of sleeping, I spent Sunday reading the whole thing. What an amazing story. I cried so many times...How does one write like that? How does one make up a story like that? His new book comes out sometime this summer and I cannot wait to read it. Does anyone know the author's background?

What's the author's name?

I've heard the title before but don't know anything about it. I have been wanting a good book to read, maybe I'll pick it up.

It was great, wasn't it? I'm glad you liked it. Do you think, after having it fresh in your mind, that I was right to be a little anxious about giving to LDS women, or I am I neurotic that they'll think I'm an infidel (no relation to Elastic)?

elizabeth, ALL of us LDS people are Infidels. They might think you're a heathen though.

If it reduced a BA like Patrick to tears, now I'm definitely going to have to check this book out.

I'm actually a big wuss, whatever BA means. BW. I don't get why anyone would be offended by the book. In the BOM, the last few chapters talk of the Lamanites killing the Nephites and feeding their flesh to their wives and children. In Sunday School we read of David and Bath-Sheba, David's son sleeping with his daughter, then the other son killing him by intrigue to avenge his sister. Ammon chopped off Islamists'...wait, Lamanites' arms off and collected them. I've often wondered if I wasn't a 'proper' Mormon, LDS, whatever, and then it occurred to me (recently, as a matter of fact)I am the norm in LDS culture. Freaky as that may seem...So are you E-W, so is EWL, so is Pisces, so is President Bush, so is everyone. Mormonism is nothing but the true worship of Jesus Christ; we don't belong to an exclusive club. So, to answer your question, E-W, I think we might be a little neurotic.

I agree that there is some rough/creepy stuff in scripture--the only difference is that they don't use the C word, and describe rape-activities with words like thrust.
You know how in church the youth will be told to walk out of a movie if there's a bad word, whatever, and that Satan carefully leads us to hell by inserting one "bad" thing into something that is otherwise good? My neurosis is that I personally will be seen as that "bad" thing in the book group. That being said, my mom just read the book in the last couple days and she's about as uptight as they come (and I say that in a loving way), and she loved the book, and said that grown women can get over reading the C word. So, since my mom approved my selection I feel redeemed :)

The Kite Runner is a wonderful, worthy book. Painful, but worth your Sunday :).
